3 Musts to Working from Home
Most people dream about the day they can crawl out of bed, grab a cup of coffee, and start their work day still clad in their pajamas as a solo business owner. In today’s world and economy and with the advances in technology, more and more of your are finding this a reality.
Is that a good thing? Well, for me, who has spent many years working from home or a local coffee shop, the answer is yes. But, and this is a big but…it’s not always easy. For some, it might be impossible. But for most, it is not only doable, it is a fantastic experience.
So, with that in mind…allow this veteran to share some things you need to keep in mind:
- Keep your work space separate and organized. This space is your office…treat it as such. I understand that this is sometimes impossible for the kitchen table may have to double as a desk, but even so, find a way to keep all of your business matters filed, organized, and handy. Perhaps some type of portable container might be key. Take it from me…having to spend time chasing down items will distract you from that which makes you money.
- Be professional. By that, I mean things like: keep you website looking good, perhaps install a separate line for business, and use a business voice when on the phone (it is easy to slip into that family tone when you are looking at a refrigerator covered with finger paintings from your four-year-old.
- Set daily goals. It may seem obvious, but for most within an office environment, they begin their day with a set of tasks or objectives. The same is true for you. Take the time to plan your day and work your plan. This will help you stay focused and on task. Sure, interruptions will happen, but make sure you get back to the list as soon as possible.
Okay…there are three easy tips from me. Hope they help remind you of some keys. God luck!
Blessings,

Have you ever watched a young child playing with the geometrical puzzle that is a standard in day cares and elementary schools across the country? For some, there is the natural ability to immediately be able to discern the shape of a puzzle piece and then find the proper fit in the box. For others…not so much.
Unfortunately, the same can be said for many of us. We determine that our lives are suppose to go in a certain direction. We focus on that direction. We work toward that direction. Then…nothing. All of our work, our effort, our energy, our hope…doesn’t make any difference. Things just don’t seem to go our way at all.
It is in these circumstances that we must understand the square peg and round hole principle. Many times, when we are facing such constant and long-term “failure,” we may very well be trying to place our plans (the square peg) into the alternate plan of God or universe (the round hole).
Is it time to change?. Perhaps…but use caution–not every sign is a green one. Sometimes what we perceive are signs are not. Examine the sign and test it against your inner voice. All of us have had those moments when we just knew something was wrong. The same can be said when we have had that gut feeling that something was definitively right. Tap into that more often, but again, remember that patience is important.
When you are truly on the right page…things fit, things work, and true wonder can occur.
Best wishes in your journey,
Dr. Keith
